The 1st Amendment and our Rights essays
The 1st Amendment and our Rights essays Freedom of Speech, freedom of expression, both oral and written, from governmental prior restraint, except as such expression constitutes libel, slander, obscenity, sedition, or criminal conduct such as bribery, perjury, or incitement to riot. In the U.S., this freedom is protected by the 1st Amendment of the Constitution. At the core of 1st Amendment concerns is the protection of expression that is critical of government policies. Also, if the people of the government think censoring American sites from having "vulgar" material on them, what happens when this child goes to a site that either has a nice sounding name that they don't think to block because it does not sound incriminating. If people don't want their children to be on obscene sites then they could put a block on that site at their own computers and make it for that child's screen name instead of the entire Internet. If there are people old enough to visit these sites they should not be blocked from everyone. But it may also be a good thing for them to censor the Internet for reasons of there are some pretty nasty ones out there and they may not have any incriminating content on them, but they are pointless and destructive to other peoples computers. There are some sites that have viruses on them and other people enter not knowing and that should definitely come to an end. Although these sites are dumb, the more you destroy the more sites just lik e it are made. The porno sites and other adult content sites should not be blocked. I say this because if they are going to look for it there is no way you can hide it from the children that have access to the Internet. Also there is no way of proving how old you really are on a computer, so there is no way a child can be caught on the site he/she is not supposed to be on. If Congress starts to limit the ability of the Internet it would be against everything that it was made for, and at th ...

This paper will apply project management skills to Brown Educational Case Study
This paper will apply project management skills to Brown Educational Gaming studio Ltd - Case Study Example Also, we will discuss the process of exploring the model, arriving at recommended actions and implementing these actions within the culture of the organization. "Brown Educational Gaming Company (BEG) is a UK-based educational gaming company specialising in young children's educational games. The company has operated from the start through projects, starting with the development of two major and highly successful games. Now there are many more; no-one quite know how many projects are taking place at BEG at present if the truth be known. BEG has just completed their fourth year of operation. The company has received a large influx of capital for growth by issuing stock privately through an investment bank. The return on investment for the 2006 and 2007 was 80% per year and for 2007-08 will be 25%. Parents and grandparents of young children have been buying BEG products almost as fast as they are developed. Every member of the 56-person firm is enthusiastic and looking forward to helping the firm grow to be the largest and best educational gaming company in the world. The founder of the firm, Sally Peters, has been awarded the accolade of The Guardian Business Woman of the Year 2007 for her ability to develop an organizational culture in which all stakeholders are committed to innovation, continuous improvement and organizational learning. Last year, the 10 top managers of B... This year the same 10 managers had a weekend away in a 4 star hotel in Barcelona, to formulate next year's strategic plan, using the same strategic plan. Most executives seem to have a consensus of where the firm should go in the intermediate and long-term, but there is little consensus on how this should be accomplished. Peters, now Managing Director of BEG feels she may be losing control. The frequency of conflicts seems to be increasing. Some individuals are always requested for any new project created. When resource conflicts occur among projects, each project managers believes his or her project is most important. More projects are not meeting deadlines and are coming in over budget. Yesterday's management meeting revealed some top BEG talent have been working on an international business game for college students. This project does not fit the organization's vision or market niche. At times it seems everyone is doing what they like. Somehow more focus is needed to ensure everyo ne agrees on how strategy should be implemented, given the resources available to the organization. Yesterday's meeting alarmed Peters. These emerging problems are coming at a bad time. Next week BEG is increasing the size of the organization, the number of new products and its marketing effort. Fifteen new people will join BEG next month. Peters is concerned that policies be in place that will ensure that the new people are used most productively. An additional potential problem looms on the horizon. Other gaming companies have noticed the success of BEG; recently one rival company tried to hire a key product development employee away from BEG. Peters wants BEG to be ready to meet any potential competition head on and to discourage any new entries

Kennedy vs. Nixon Essay Example for Free
Kennedy vs. Nixon Essay ââ¬Å"Peace,â⬠the overall message is about experience and knowing what to do during though times. Nixons campaign tried to convey this seriousness by shooting its commercials of Nixon perched on a desk and speaking directly to the camera. In JFKââ¬â¢s 1960 ââ¬Å"Debate,â⬠political ad, he addresses the people in a snappier way, and by ââ¬Å"facing the issues squarely. â⬠However, neither of the candidates ads was about issues; rather, they were more contrast in styles. The messages focused on the era as a dangerous time; it was really an election about change versus experience. In Kennedyââ¬â¢s ad, he expresses his ideas directly, specifically, and offers ââ¬Å"new American leadership for the country. â⬠His tone is very magnetic and appealing, and it is quite pleasing to an American to hear that Kennedy thinks that America is a great country, but ââ¬Å"it could be a greaterâ⬠one. Whereas Nixon speaks with such composure and a serious-minded tone in his ad, it almost seems he is not excited (or even cares) to be there. The way Kennedy carries himself while giving speeches is an especially confident, poised, and self-assured one, so much that he even comments on whether if people think that America was doing everything satisfactorily, that he agreed with them, that they ââ¬Å"should vote for Nixonâ⬠! Furthermore, on the Kennedy-Nixon debate, Kennedy appeared looking ââ¬Å"tanned, confident, and vigorous,â⬠while Nixon was ââ¬Å"wearing no make up and a light-colored suit that blended into the background looking exhausted and pale, and sweated profusely. Also, Mr. Nixonââ¬â¢s tone is exceedingly formal, thus making him look a tad bit uncharismatic, (unlike his likable contender). His way of speaking directly to the camera and giving detailed answers to an offscreen speaker, presented him ââ¬Å"as a though, experienced leader able to stand up to the Communists. â⬠In general, while Nixon was not as charismatic and pleasant as JFK, he was a seasoned, experienced, and mature leader ready to stand up to Khrushchev. Moreover, Nixon kept arguing that while Khrushchev was a ââ¬Å"cold, hard, ruthless man,â⬠that we wonââ¬â¢t ââ¬Å"be coerced, that we will not tolerate being pushed around,â⬠that heââ¬â¢d continue to ââ¬Å"deal with Communism and the Soviet leadersâ⬠¦firmly, and always with vigilance. â⬠In contrast, Kennedy attempted to turn his youth into an advantage, proclaiming in his acceptance speech at the Democratic Convention, ââ¬Å"We stand today on the edge of a new frontier. ââ¬

Double Deceit - Original Writing :: Papers
Double Deceit - Original Writing I didn't know anything about him, until he stepped out of the car. He looked around, taking in his surroundings, and I realised he was an army man, like I used to be. He stepped towards me, and asked innocently, "Excuse me, but is this New London Road?" I looked carefully at him, quickly recalling the password "No sir, this is New York Avenue" He shook my hand quickly, and nodded to the car. No introductions were required. The less I knew about him the better - for both of us. I looked out of the windscreen the whole way. The streets of New Yorkwere scary, but right now, the inside of this car was a lot scarier. I was used to looking at people straight in the eye, I was an army person. Yet now, that was useless. This was a different mission. After a full half-hour of driving, the car suddenly stopped. The man kept looking at the staring wheel, and said "codename Steve". It was understood immediately, and I quickly replied "John". No other words were needed. He quickly blindfolded me, as I had done many prisoners in the war, and drove again. After an hour, my legs began to hurt. Being six-foot tall, it was difficult to sit in a car for this long. I also wanted to itch my hair badly. I knew that people like 'Steve' did not like the idea of me moving my hands around, but I felt as if a dark bug was crawling around my hair, clearly visible on my grey hair. We finally reached the destination. I was taken out of the car, and frisked before I entered. I knew I had entered the building when I felt a sudden rise in temperature. My blindfold was removed and I found myself in a room, completely plain. It was weird. I had always imagined that terrorists used dark rooms, with cracks everywhere. This room was different. There was one chair and one window. The window had

Esprit five forces Essay
Esprit faces competitors such as H&M, Uniqlo, Zara, Mango, Giordano, and Gap. Espritââ¬â¢s goal is to make its own enterprise gain advantage relative to its competitors. So when they implement their plan to achieve their goal, conflict occurs with their competitors. Competition is often manifested in the price, advertising, products, services and so on. Many ââ¬Å"Fast Fashionâ⬠brands have different product lines. Their products are more innovative and stylish. Also those brands can meet the needs of middle-class consumers. Therefore those brands can occupy the market share and gain the market value. In 2011, Esprit lost more than 90% income from 2007. It is because Esprit lost its brand positioning, continuously slipping in popularity, less consumer demand, lack of innovation and unable to meet diverse needs of consumers. To solve these problems, Esprit decided to exit its North American retail operation. They cooperate with new competent license partner instead. However, they did not give up on North America entirely. Because exit the competition is more costly than continue to participate in the competition. There are some reason will mainly affect Esprit such as economic factors, global strategy and emotional effects. Socio-political factors include asset specificity and costs of exit. Threats of Buyerââ¬â¢s Growing Bargaining Power Esprit exists in fast fashion industry and there are few competitors in the industry. The products of fast fashion industry have similar style. Therefore buyers would have lots of choices. Buyers would like to get higher-quality products at an affordable price and this will affect the profitability of companies in the industry. In China market, China has a huge market size and demographic differences among provinces. However, China is a ââ¬Å"Red Seaâ⬠. Esprit cannot get a desirable profit because there are too many competitors. This affect the buyers in China have more choices to make their own decision. Threats of Suppliersââ¬â¢ Growing Bargaining Power Supplier bargaining power is the ability to influence the setting of price. Suppliers lower their materialââ¬â¢s quality and value but raise up the price ofà input factors in order to influence the existing industry in profitability and competitiveness. Different supplierââ¬â¢s materials have certain characteristics and distinguishing features. Therefore the retailer cannot change the supplier suddenly without planning because changing the supplier may higher the cost. Also the one of the important reason is retailer hard to discover a high quality to replace the material. The strength of supplier bargaining power is mainly depends on what materials or input factors they provide to Esprit. When suppliers provide the input factors that the value occupy Espritââ¬â¢s large proportion of the total cost of product and the production process is critical or seriously affect the quality of the product, the potential bargaining power of supplier is greatly enhanced. Threats of New Entrants Barriers of entry include economies of scale, product differentiation, switching costs, capital needed, sales channels, natural resources, policies, geography, and so on. Some of these barriers are hard to breakthrough by means of copying or imitation. The possibility of new enterprises to enter the industry is depends on the entrant, estimated potential impact of interest rate and the required cost of the risk to take. Competitive access to the severity of the threat depends on two factors. One is the size and the other one is expected barriers to new areas of existing businesses respond to entrants. However, the fast fashion industry entry barriers are very low. Therefore there is a lot of competitors who almost sales the same products or services in order to gain the fast fashion market share. Esprit is being tough and very hard to survival in this market which has high competition of market share of raw materials and it may lower the profitability of a company in the industry. Th reats of Substitute Products Esprit and its competitor such as H&M, Gapââ¬â¢s products are very similar and their products are substitute products. The competitive of substitute products will affect the competitive strategy of the company in the fast fashion industry. The existing product prices and potential of increasing the profitability are limited by the userââ¬â¢s acceptability of the existing substitute products. Because of invades of substitute products, the existing enterprises must improve the quality of their products, reduce the cost inà order to lower the price or make the products be more unique in order to prevent the loss and frustrated of sales. The lower price and higher quality of substitute product will produce a strong competitive pressure to the enterprises. The intensity of competition from substitute product can specifically observe by examining the sales growth, factory production capacity and profit expansion.
